Marjorie Debenedictis, M.D.
Medical Mission Director
Dr. Marjorie DeBenedictis grew up in Los Angeles, California. She graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and was commissioned in the U.S. Navy. She went on to graduate from the University of Southern California School of Medicine. After completing her transitional internship at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Dr. DeBenedictis became the Medical Director of the Tri-Service Alcohol Rehab facility at Tripler.
Margie completed her residency in ophthalmology at Naval Medical Center, San Diego California. Upon completion of residency, she became the solo ophthalmologist at U.S. Naval Hospital, Guam. She also served as the solo ophthalmologist for Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas. Continuing her U.S. Navy service, she served as a Navy reservist in Guam while practicing as a private ophthalmologist.
In 2009, Dr. DeBenedictis founded St. Lucy’s Eye Clinic in Guam. She retired from the United States Navy at the rank of Commander.
Dr. DeBenedictis has participated in ophthalmology missions to Peru, Yap, Guatemala, Vanuatu, Fiji, Vietnam, and India. The Eye Mission of the Pacific is grateful to have her serve as the foundation’s first Medical Mission Director. In this role she will direct and oversee the foundation’s mission work in the Pacific.
